
Exploring livelihood sources for rural women through skill development & improving access to better sanitation
Mawal taluka is located around 80 Kms away from Pune and near to Lonawala. The proximity of the entire Mawal villages to Pune industrial area is significant. In contrary to the advantages of popular domestic tourist locations of Maharashtra like Lonawala nearest to these villages, the real situation in most of the villages are poor in terms of availability of sources of livelihood and skill development among the youths. The project has started during the period of 2019 -19 with the objective of improving the access of opportunities of livelihood for women through skill development according to their aspirations and market demands. Some specific sub sectors are identified for skill development which are found to have market demands, especially domestic tourism industries. One is handicraft making by using, cloths, jute and leather. Organic farming and making of organic manure was another opportunity appeared as having significance not only for income generation but also in solid waste management.

Major achievements:
Out of 100 trainees participated in the training programs, 80 has acquired multiple skills in cloth, jute and leather based handicraft making.
Replicable models of bio degradable waste management has demonstrated in the village, out of which more than 100 families were benefited.
The entire project outcome can be considered as a replicable and scalable model of entrepreneurship with affordable financial and technical inputs and good potentials of catering the demand of domestic tourism and Pune urban markets.
